How to spot a real deal in 60 seconds
A crossed-out RRP is theatre. These six checks are how you tell a genuine moment from marketing.
Check the price history
Paste the product link into an independent price tracker before buying. If the “deal” price is what it sold for most of last month, you’re looking at marketing, not a discount.
Ignore the RRP, find the typical price
The honest benchmark is what the item usually sells for, not the manufacturer’s list price. A real deal beats the recent typical price — anything else is a repriced label.
Compare per-unit, not per-box
Multipacks and “value” sizes aren’t always cheaper. Amazon shows price per 100g/100ml or per unit in small print — that number is where the truth lives.
Check who sells and who ships
Open “Other sellers” and look past the buy box. A slightly higher price sold and dispatched by Amazon can beat a cheaper third-party offer on returns, speed and support.
Read reviews for the variant you’re buying
Listings often merge colours, sizes and even generations of a product. Filter reviews to your exact variant — a 4.5-star average can hide a 3-star version.
Cross-check one other retailer
Thirty seconds on another major UK retailer’s site confirms whether the price is genuinely sharp or just average. If two shops match it, it’s the market price, not a deal.
